AMP-activated protein kinases
AMP-activated protein kinases (AMPKs) are cellular metabolic sensors that coordinate energy metabolism, autophagy, inflammation, and stress responses.
AMP-activated protein kinases (AMPKs) are cellular metabolic sensors that coordinate energy metabolism, autophagy, inflammation, and stress responses. In the cited studies, AMPK activity was assessed primarily through pathway activation or phosphorylation of AMPK, particularly the AMPKα catalytic subunit. Its signaling was examined in relation to lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, ferroptosis, mitophagy, autophagy, and immune-cell function.
The recent literature places AMPK at the intersection of metabolic dysfunction and tissue injury. AMPK-associated pathways included LKB1–AMPK regulation of lipogenesis and fatty-acid oxidation, AMPK–mTOR and AMPK–ULK1 control of autophagy, and AMPK–Nrf2 signaling in antioxidant and ferroptosis-related responses. These findings extend the broader themes of AMPK metabolic-stress signaling, autophagy across tissue disease, and AMPK-mediated responses to brain and renal injury.

Cellular Stress and Autophagy
AMPK-linked autophagy and stress responses are being explored across wound repair, reproductive dysfunction, aging-related cognitive decline and cancer immunotherapy. Macrophage autophagy recurs in diabetic wound healing and tumor reprogramming, while oxidative stress and ferroptosis are therapeutic targets. mTOR-related signaling and AMPK activation are used to restore cellular quality control. The disease settings differ, but the shared aim is protective or immunostimulatory remodeling of stressed cells.

AMPK in Metabolic Disease
AMPK-centered control of lipid metabolism links obesity, hepatic steatosis and intestinal immune regulation. Dietary obesity studies emphasize the LEP/AMPK/ACC axis and restoration of gut function. Euphorbia factor L3 instead acts through LKB1-AMPK to reduce fatty-liver lipid accumulation. AMPK licensing of intestinal CD103+ dendritic cells extends this work toward Treg-mediated metabolic and inflammatory control.

AMPK in Tissue Injury
AMPK-mediated autophagy restoration is being pursued to limit inflammation and improve recovery after renal and brain injury. Modified Huanglian Wendan Decoction activates the AMPK/ULK1 pathway in prediabetic renal injury, while Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction is examined through ncRNA and miRNA networks. Apelin-13 targets neuroinflammation and neurological dysfunction after neonatal hypoxic-ischemic injury. The work remains largely preclinical and centers on linking autophagy control with tissue protection.
