Cancer

Cancer is a broad group of diseases characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells, their capacity to invade surrounding tissues, and, in many cases, their ability to spread to distant organs through metastasis.

  • Cancer Care and Outcomes

Cancer care is being judged through mortality, morbidity, utilization, and access rather than incidence alone. Real-world data and the OMOP Common Data Model support population comparisons, while CT, metabolomics, and machine learning aim to improve earlier detection and diagnosis. Diabetes, acute myocardial infarction, childhood disease, and disaster recovery recur as settings where cancer changes care needs and outcomes. Persistent gaps in low-income and disrupted settings leave implementation and equitable access unresolved.

  • Vaccination in Cancer Care

Vaccination is being integrated into cancer care, with on-site delivery aimed at improving uptake among patients receiving treatment. COVID-19 infection and COVID-19 vaccines are examined for possible associations with cancer, while respiratory syncytial virus, pneumococcal, and herpes zoster vaccines broaden the preventive agenda. The evidence centers on effectiveness, safety, and cancer-specific implementation rather than a shared therapeutic endpoint. Whether observed associations reflect biology, confounding, or healthcare access remains open.

  • Others — Cancer Risk, Biology and Care

Genomic risk, immune-cell activity, inflammation, and neuron-cancer signaling appear alongside experimental cytotoxics, nanoparticles, and redox modulation. Other work addresses ACE inhibitors and ARBs as cancer risk factors and the clinical rollout of germline testing for Lynch syndrome. These strands support therapeutic discovery and risk assessment, but they do not converge on one disease, mechanism, or endpoint. The common direction is broader molecular characterization linked to prevention, treatment response, and clinical implementation, with efficacy and safety still unsettled.

NEW DIRECTION

Colon cancer is treated as a participant in neuron–immune signaling rather than only as a tumor target

The colon-cancer study found cholinergic nerve fibers in tumor tissue and stroma associated with poor T-cell and greater macrophage infiltration, and showed that blocking acetylcholine signaling altered the tumor microenvironment and strengthened chemotherapy- and immunotherapy responses. This assigns cancer a role as an active component of a neuron–cancer–immune circuit, extending beyond the set’s usual treatment, detection, risk, and care-delivery roles; consequently, local neural signaling and immune reprogramming become therapeutic targets alongside the tumor itself. 42612638Aug
