DL-homocysteine

DL-homocysteine is the racemic form of homocysteine, a sulfur-containing amino acid that occupies a central position in one-carbon metabolism and the methionine cycle.

  • Homocysteine in Human Health

Homocysteine is being studied mainly as a circulating biomarker across cardiovascular, renal, neurological, psychiatric and pregnancy-related conditions. Elevated or altered homocysteine, cysteine and methionine levels recur in associations with prognosis, cognitive decline, cardiac electrical abnormalities and neonatal outcomes. Folic acid, resistance training and electroconvulsive therapy represent different attempts to modify or interpret these biochemical patterns. The literature remains clinically exploratory, with no single intervention or mechanism unifying the findings.

NEW DIRECTION

Homocysteine becomes a signal-modulating reagent in an ultrasensitive cancer assay

The capillary-SERS sensor for serum homocysteine in hepatocellular carcinoma uses homocysteine not merely as a disease biomarker, prognostic variable, or treatment target, but as an active assay reagent that scavenges free radicals and suppresses nanozyme-driven TMB oxidation, thereby modulating the detection signal. This shifts homocysteine into an analytical reaction role: its presence is converted directly into a measurable SERS attenuation pattern that distinguishes hepatocellular carcinoma samples from healthy controls 42065546May.
