  • Dementia Care and Prevention

Dementia care and prevention are being addressed across services, communities, and risk-prediction research rather than through a single disease mechanism. Blood-based biomarkers, education, genetic risk, physical and mental health, and early-detection models recur as routes to earlier identification and potentially lower incidence. Other work focuses on inpatient provision, personalised primary-care planning, family and informal caregiver burden, and mHealth support at home. The evidence is heterogeneous, with cohort, survey, qualitative, and national hospitalization studies defining needs more clearly than establishing one clinical intervention.

NEW DIRECTION

Education is a modifiable social determinant that can weaken genetic risk for dementia

The education-reform study of Alzheimer disease and related dementias found that increased education causally reduced dementia incidence and weakened the association between genetic risk and dementia, rather than treating genetic susceptibility as immutable; this gives dementia a role as an outcome whose inherited risk can be modified through social policy 42912790Oct.
