Deep brain stimulation

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical therapy that delivers controlled electrical pulses to defined brain regions through implanted electrodes.

Where the papers sit

10 papers from the last 6 months study deep brain stimulation directly · updated from PubMed 2 Nov 2026

Those 10 are all about one subject.

  • Clinical Neuromodulation

Neuromodulation research is moving toward more individualized targeting, programming, and follow-up across movement, psychiatric, cognitive, sleep, and demyelinating disorders. Robotic navigation, delayed imaging, and local field potentials aim to improve lead placement and programming precision. Remote monitoring and psychosocial assessment are expanding care beyond surgery, while cytokine and neural-encoding studies seek biological measures of response. Evidence remains preliminary and heterogeneous, with clinical benefits and optimal stimulation strategies still unresolved.

NEW DIRECTION

Forniceal stimulation is presented as a neurodevelopmental treatment for memory impairment, not merely a symptomatic circuit intervention

Forniceal deep brain stimulation in Rett syndrome mice was assumed to improve memory through an associated increase in hippocampal neurogenesis, but the study instead found that it causally promoted the maturation and circuit integration of newborn dentate granule cells, rescued their dendritic and synaptic deficits, and restored inhibitory GABAergic signaling through KCC2. This gives DBS a role as a developmental neuronal-maturation intervention for cognitive impairment, extending beyond the motor, seizure-related, sleep, and programming applications represented elsewhere in the set 42949966Oct.
